This work is a wonderful example of absolute harmony between different literary forms—an novel with its dramatic narrative of a person’s life and fate, and a detective story with its dynamic and intrigue-filled investigation. After reading this novel, you understand that in the market of popular literature there appeared a standard called “detective novel.” And that now this definition can hardly be applied to every book that tries to claim the title of detective novel…
The life and fate of a great actress, along with a string of murders of high-ranking people… Realism of images, shocking rules of life of the Soviet elite and the nomenklatura tired of living “like everyone else”… With the tragic consequences of the era for some of the book’s heroes, just like in other TGR novels, a private detective Alexey Kisanov deals. The logic of crimes, false versions, the Damoclean sword over a beloved person… all of this together is experienced by the reader alongside the characters on every page.
Why do the heroes get killed with a poisoned needle? Why do all investigation paths lead to a clean, kind person who simply can’t be bad? Who is the killer? And why did the author treat the main hero so brutally—clearly risking upsetting the reader? That’s not how entertainment literature is supposed to work. Only after reading you realize what an extraordinarily deep and intelligent novel was written by Garmash-Roffe. Hooray for the author!!! Keep it up! Read and don’t regret it—and don’t worry: you won’t fall asleep with this novel. Because with this book, you won’t be able to sleep!
