This year turned out to be very hard for me—the baron of Vuldig, a descendant of Surin the Cursed. I lost a friend, acquired countless enemies, argued with the Inquisition again, and the trouble with money never ended. But the most serious trials, as it turned out, were waiting for me ahead.

So, on one late winter evening, a blizzard raged… How could I refuse three freezing people who knocked at the gates of my castle asking for help in such weather? And I should have—because the uninvited guests immediately started a strange and dangerous game of hide-and-seek. Had I known their visit would bring me so many problems, I would have let all the ghosts of the area go on the strangers!
