The Record

“Don’t even look in his direction! He’s my ex. A damn string of red flags and a dead star in the world of rallies.”

“Dead?” I ask. “He’s a hero. He pulled another racer out of the fire.”

“From the rival team! And now nobody wants to work with him. Look.”

Tim steps out of the office, and we hear his voice over his shoulder:

“Remember: your ceiling is an electric scooter now!”

“Go to hell! Not taking me on the team is a mistake. And soon you’ll understand that.”

For a moment our eyes meet. Tim winks and, ignoring the stream of insults, calmly walks toward the exit.

And I almost run after him. Nobody, ever, threatened my idiot stepfather. Nobody had ever been that brave.

And despite my sister’s warning… I fall in love with the guy at first sight.
