This time, Dr. Danilov, at the request of his superiors, is trying to determine the cause of the high fatality rate in the anesthesiology and intensive care department of the 95th clinical hospital. Everything seems to be done the way it should be, but patients die there four times more often than in similar departments at other Moscow hospitals… The staff of the department explain what’s happening in different ways. One blames bad ecology, another blames the coronavirus pandemic, and the third turns to mysticism—but Danilov knows that nothing happens “just like that.” He searches diligently for the cause, and anyone who looks will always find. This isn’t a detective story and it’s not a medical thriller, although elements of both are present. It is the fifteenth novel about the adventures, exploits, and misfortunes of Dr. Danilov.
