Birds, Beasts, and Relatives

“Birds, Beasts, and Relatives” continues the story begun in “My Family and Other Animals,” described as incredibly captivating (in Sunday Times’s opinion) and delightfully idyllic (according to The New Yorker). Gerald Durrell lovingly, precisely, and humorously tells of his family’s five-year stay on the Greek island of Corfu. The book also features his older brother Larry, who would later become the author of “The Alexandria Quartet.” These works became popular around the world, beloved by many generations, and even made it into school curricula in England. The “Corfu Trilogy,” which over time expanded to six books, was adapted for film three times; most recently in 2016, when ITV created the series “The Durrells.” The novel is now being published in a new complete translation by Sergey Task, known for his work on Tom Wolfe’s works, John le Carré, and other classics.
