Ksenia Shelkov is a writer from Saint Petersburg. She is known for her fantasy books, most often Slavic or based on the realities of Russia of the 18th and 19th centuries. We present in audio format the novel “Birds Don’t Sing in Spring”—the second book of the cycle “Seasons.”
Anna was born into a merchant family. Her mother disappeared without a trace on the day of Anna’s birth, and this sad fact troubles the heroine all her life. Anna’s father remarried, but the relationship with her stepmother doesn’t work out. A count, Levashov, proposed to Anna, and her father took it as a great honor— but what were the count’s true intentions? Perhaps a threat is looming over the heroine. The feeling of danger is intensified by the secrets of the past and by a strange illness that, year after year, catches up with her in May.
In the second book, the runaway Anna falls under the protection of Agrafena Lyalina, nicknamed “The Spider.” She runs a boarding house and, alongside that, is involved in dirty business. Protection has a cost, but the heroine’s patience isn’t endless. Meanwhile, the mysterious Prince Polotsky is searching for Anna again in order to help her.
