Reconnaissance for Daryn—one that should have ended long ago—turned into an ordeal. Slavery, killer wasps, a capture, beast-people, the escape, the rescue of little girl Lillik, and then a mortal wound.
The peaceful country of Savod has existed for a thousand years since the gods disappeared—at least that’s what they say about people. Many technologies of the ancestors are there; people hunt for them, and even wage wars over them.
And now, the silikats invaded Savod’s lands. Their first attempt to penetrate the catacombs of the garrison failed. The enemy is marching on the capital. A siege. The first towers fell, the air fortress is burning—and again the silikats want to break into the catacombs. Defeat seems inevitable, but the cursed sasips who guarded the secret of the ancestors have chosen a victim. Now all that’s left is to wait.
Daryn and Shagrat go to the enemy’s camp to find out whether the prophecy has come true.
