A Gap in the Biography

It seems there could hardly be anything easier—or more unpleasant—than attending a funeral for someone who isn’t really close to you. But it can get worse: you find out that the deceased—who had worked for you for many years—was murdered. What’s more, strange gaps appeared in Claude Thésier’s life, an ordinary estate manager, and no one could say where he was or what he did during those months. Lavinia Redfield didn’t like blanks in a victim’s biography. Experience suggested that it’s precisely in those gaps that killers hide. And the uncertainties multiplied like rabbits: the sudden appearance and unexpected death of a woman who turned out not to be a widow after all; suspicion of a crime committed with the help of an artifact; strange activity in a small sleepy town next door to the estate… The commander had to sacrifice his vacation and take on the investigation, because no one is allowed to raise a hand against what belongs to the Redfield family—and Claude Thésier belonged to it.
