“Lord of Chaos,” also known as “The Story of How Count Aubek Went in Search of the Castle of Canelon—and What Came of It,” was first published in the magazine “Fantastic” in May 1964.
It is the chronologically first work in the cycle “The Chronicles of Elric of Melniboné.” Originally it was considered part of the collection “The Singing Citadel” (1977).
Count Obek Malador, the First Knight of Lormir, was to conquer the castle of Canelon and bring it under the Empire, but the castle’s mistress, Mishella, lures him with a heavier prize. To do that, he must fight Chaos…
