Brady Hartsfield, Mr. Mercedes, the perpetrator of the massacre at the civic center who killed eight innocent people and seriously wounded many others, had spent five years as a vegetable in the traumatic brain injury clinic. The doctors had absolutely no faith in his recovery. But after all those years of meaningless staring and drooling, Brady finally regained consciousness, only to spread terror and chaos from his room with his newly acquired abilities.

Retired policeman Bill Hodges, the hero of the story involving Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers, now works as a private investigator together with his partner Holly Gibney, who was the one who dealt Brady that fateful blow to the head. Back then Mr. Mercedes threatened death not only to Bill and Holly, but also to their friend Jerome, his little sister, as well as thousands of spectators at a concert. But Brady is back, and his plans involve more than simply taking revenge on those who wronged him. He wants revenge on the whole city.

Stephen King’s “End of Watch” concludes the Bill Hodges detective trilogy with the writer’s trademark — supernatural horror before the unknown, an unusual взгляд at human vulnerability and at his nocturnal amusements.
