This book is a classic of Anglo-American children’s literature. It was first published in 1912 and was never translated into Russian—about the life of an ordinary girl (an orphan taken in “out of a sense of duty” by a stern aunt) who could see the best in everything and live an unusual “game of joy” that turned the life of the whole town upside down and opened many people’s hearts to simple Gospel words: “Always rejoice.”
