On the eve of the next elections for the City Council of Hoke and Fisher invites James Adamant—an Alternative Reform party candidate—to serve as personal bodyguards. Adamant is competing with Hardcastle, a supporter of the conservatives who have long taken over one of the most dangerous districts in the city and command a large detachment of hired soldiers. Of course, there are also other candidates who can’t be written off. Any of them, to improve their chances, will do anything—from dark magic to murders and open street clashes. So the first task becomes not winning over voters, but simply surviving—which is what two famous guards are meant to ensure for Adamant.
