A new space opera from the author of the “The Expanse” series!
People abducted and brought to the world of the Karricks—ruthless conquerors of the cosmos—are forced to obediently play the role assigned to them: helping the Karricks stay alive at the edge of extinction as a species. But being useful isn’t enough just once—your value has to be proven constantly. The threat of total annihilation for the enslaved human race has become less obvious, but it hasn’t gone away. Dafid Alkor, who has risen to the status of “the first among slaves”—the official voice of humans before the Karrick authorities—rules over his fellow people with an iron hand and uncompromisingly, even though the true purpose of his methods is simple: to keep them alive. Those around him often despise and fear Alkor, not understanding what lies behind his decisions. At the same time, Dafid is hatching a conspiracy against the Karricks, relying on a narrow circle of people who are truly loyal to him. A swarm also becomes an ally—an unfathomable entity, a weapon of the mysterious “immortal enemy” of the Karricks, inhabiting human bodies and absorbing their identities…
The author’s previous book, “The Mercy of Gods,” which launches a new series, made the top 20 best books of 2024 according to Publishers Weekly.
Amazon has already started production of a series based on the novel and its future sequels.
