The Ketran Empire is gripped by a deadly disease. On the bodies of the survivors it leaves marks. Such people are called the Marked by the Shadow. Cassia is a mercenary who makes her living by raids and is part of a criminal conspiracy. With the money she earns, the girl wants to buy a medicine that will save the life of her patron. But one small mistake could cost her life. Cassia falls into King Varen’s trap. From now on she has only two paths: to strike a deal with him or to die. Now the girl must find a cure for the disease, enlisting the support of Captain Elander. At first the mission seems simple: investigate the origin of the terrible illness that has struck the empire, find the medicine, and put an end to it. But in a land of ancient magic and gods, nothing is so straightforward. While the disease continues taking lives and monsters spread chaos, Cassia and Elander will have to unite to protect the kingdom.
