Late 18th century, Russian Empire. Young uhlan Stanislav Bulat has already been living in Moscow for two years and working for the Secret Expedition. He is summoned to Saint Petersburg to take part in an inquiry into the case of a prisoner held in the Peter and Paul Fortress—whose name is kept secret.
In the capital, confronted by a string of brutal deaths, Bulat realizes that he himself is on the hook of a hired killer who skillfully covers his tracks. Trying to identify the customer behind the crimes, Pan Stanislav is pulled into a whirlpool of palace intrigues, where every wrong step threatens him with prison, and the love of a charming adventuress—death.
“Prisoner” is an engrossing historical novel about the adventures of young uhlan Stanislav Bulat, about a difficult time, about people willing to risk their lives to defend their honor, and—too—about love: dangerous, fateful.
