Hunting the Heiress

When Verena ran away, he swore he would find her— but now he understands: if her father reaches her first, she’s doomed. He’ll have to decide what matters more: loyalty to his family, or the feelings he can’t just ignore.

Verena turned out to be the very missing Princess of Marmorise we’d been searching for all our lives— and I let her go. Her trail won’t let me rest: the bitterness of being close to her mixed with the crushing pain of betrayal and haunts me day and night. I’d suspected she was keeping something from me, but her secrets were far more dangerous than I could have imagined. And I wish my own betrayal didn’t leave such a burning aftertaste. Now I dream of her deep blue eyes—the moment she looked at me in disbelief, realizing that I’d uncovered the truth about her. And I long to see that look again—as I follow her trail alongside half the rebels.

If my father finds her before I do, no one knows what he’ll do to her. And even if she is that same little traitor I always thought she was, I can’t let him reach her first. But the order is unequivocal: the princess must be captured by the rebel army—otherwise the gods will take her. And I don’t know which is worse.

She is the heiress of the kingdom, the daughter of a cruel king responsible for my mother’s death, and the key to victory in our war. I swore to my father that I would find her—the one I most wanted not to find. Verena is the heiress being hunted. But above all—she is mine.
