Leonid Kortsnev receives an unusual job offer — as a captain on a guard ship intended to protect shipping from pirates in the Gulf of Guinea. The contract terms are very enticing, but… Having been through the survival school of the “crab epic” in the Far East during the “shooting nineties,” the captain suspects the matter is not clean. Still, the material incentives outweigh everything, and he becomes captain of the guard ship “Theseus,” on which, under the banner of a security firm, a group operates connected with secret developments in the field of time-travel research. On the “Theseus” there is an installation capable of moving through time. The plan is to send the ship, loaded with modern weapons, into the past to plunder the galleons of Spain’s Golden Fleet in the Caribbean, and then return to the starting point in the twenty-first century. Only life often provides such surprises that “office strategists” can’t foresee.
