A bright and very original symbiosis of science fiction and fantasy, brewed with medieval everyday life of the era of Scandinavian Vikings.
Two years ago, on the planet Midgard, a research group of eight Earthmen disappeared. Now a new expedition sends a rescuer to find the survivors or identify the bodies of those who died, and also to destroy all traces of any possible contact between the indigenous people and the Earthmen. On Midgard there is a local humanoid civilization stuck in the early Middle Ages, somewhat reminiscent of Scandinavia of the Viking era. Here, any electronics fails and any advanced technology breaks down—but the rescuer, or as the locals call him, the Night Stranger, has been changed at a biological level: he is faster and stronger than any inhabitant of Midgard. Only neither the Earthmen nor the Stranger yet know that this world’s resemblance to Earth is deceptive; real monsters live here, and the rescuer—and along with him the planet’s inhabitants—will have to face true horror and madness that cannot be explained in rational terms.
