Melanie’s life is changing fast. For the past few weeks, her home has been occupied by Nola, a thirteen-year-old girl—Jack’s daughter. Both of them have only recently learned about her existence. Nola has a skillfully made large dollhouse with figurines of its occupants—a copy of one of the old city mansions. Rumor has it that in the mansion, with its complicated history, there are ghosts. Melanie and Jack go to the house’s owner to sort out these rumors, because lately Melanie and Nola have been receiving mysterious—and sometimes quite frightening—signs from forces beyond this world.
