A black SUV flashed in the autumn sun, its polished shine cutting through the light as it cut in on the “German.” Nadia could barely fit into the turn.
“Look where you’re going! I have my kids in the back seat!” she snapped, rolling down the window.
Rage blazed in her gaze at the driver and the passenger with the brave, strong profile—and in the next instant, her heart lurched and dropped somewhere down.
The passenger’s green eyes—so familiar and unbearably dear—pierced her through, stealing her ability to breathe.
“Mommy, we ran away!”
“Mommy, bye! Will you get us?”
Nadia nodded automatically. She recognized the passenger of the black SUV, and a fog swirled before her eyes.
