The National Socialist German Workers’ Party was founded in 1920, and only a few years later it came to power by constitutional means. Millions of Germans enthusiastically welcomed the Nazi regime and supported the Führer in his drive to take revenge for past humiliations and conquer “living space” for the “Great Reich.”
On the wave of patriotic hopes, Nazism flourished in Germany—a regime that helped the state grow strong and be revived. It was revived only in order to plunge its own people—and the whole world—into a catastrophe of a monstrous war. © Rupert Colley 2010, 2011 © Karaev N., Russian translation, 2014 © Russian-language edition, design.
