Once again, Aleksey Terehin is transported to another era—this time to Russia’s hard period, the invasion of Napoleon. As usual, he started from the bottom, from a rank-and-file rifle ranger regiment, went with his comrades as a scout, and ended up in the captured Moscow. Together with the forester Matvey, he became a partisan—switching into the uniform of the Neapolitan regiment. He inflicted significant damage on the French army, but then came under investigation by the Special Chancellery on suspicion of desertion. He was cleared, made it to Paris with honor—yet he nearly died on his native land.
