The English scientist and inventor of a secret weapon, Harry Dilling, has died suddenly. It happened after he decided to sell his invention to some department—yet in that place they don’t like paying “extra” money when something can be obtained for almost nothing. Before his death, Dilling hid all the documentation about his invention. He bequeathed everything he owned, including the inventions, to his friend Lili Stevens, but she has absolutely no recollection of the day Dilling hid the little suitcase with the documents. John Grimster, an employee of the Department who has recently lost the leadership’s trust, must help her remember. This will be Grimster’s last assignment—after which he is to be eliminated. And, of course, when the operation is finished, Lili Stevens must die an “natural” death.
