"The Tsar’s Carousel" is a panoramic and historically accurate painting depicting Russian noble society in the period before the war of 1812, as well as during the war itself. This is a novel about an era, a “novel about Time,” as its author put it. And it all begins with the famous poet Vasily Zhukovsky, whose biography reflects many fates, including those of the six Pervsky brothers—illegitimate children of Count Alexey Razumovsky—who played a significant role in Russia’s destiny; and before that, while still boys, they took part in the Battle of Borodino. "The Uniform and the Frock Coat of Zhukovsky" is the first part of the novel.
