On the eve of Christmas, two women from different time periods swap places: a teacher from 21st-century Moscow, Natalya, ends up in 1811, while Natali, the mistress of a provincial estate in Smolensk region, finds herself in the present day. Their adventures come to an end, and soon they will be able to return to their own eras, as they had planned. However, ahead of them lie trials—including an important event that made the swap happen in the first place: the War of 1812, which will engulf the Smolensk region and capture all the heroes. They will take part in the hunt for Napoleon, fight in partisan battles, and meet the famous partisan-hussar Denis Davydov. Besides heroic and dramatic events, love and passion will have their place in their lives, and both heroines will finally find family happiness. But was it all real—or just the product of the author’s imagination, inspired by long winter evenings? That remains a mystery.
