July 1945. Although the war has ended, vverwolf sabotage groups are still active in Germany, and in Courland the SS men continue their desperate resistance, trying to break through to Swedish Gotland. Two captains—one of them a разведчик (scout), the other an артиллерист (artilleryman)—continue fighting the enemy, hoping to return home soon. But instead of the long-awaited home, they find Manchuria and a new war—not peace.
