Description
“The Ice” (1967) is the main novel by British writer Anna Kavan, during her lifetime compared to Virginia Woolf and called Kafka’s sister. Critics consider Kavan the founder of the slipstream genre (“a twist of the imagination”)—fantastical imaginative literature where cause-and-effect logic hangs by a thread, and heightened feelings, sharpened to the limit, matter incomparably more than logic. In her novels, a fully realistic depiction suddenly ripples, and unexpected images and pictures rise to the surface from the depths of the subconscious.
