To a planet where the natives slowly die out, our hero arrives with a genetically modified lion that has a mind. In ancient times, aliens came here and decided to eradicate humanoids in a very original way: by creating a machine that predicts the future. When people learned what awaited them, they lost interest in life. The last one to fall under the machine’s curse—before it broke—was our hero and his lion. However, the machine didn’t have enough energy for the final impulse, so the hero remembers only fragmentary images from the predictions and knows that his genetically modified friend must die. The lion, though, remembers everything—he just can’t tell it…
