At one film festival, a famous writer was forced to admit that, alas, the best screenplay wasn’t written by him. The film, titled with a quote from the song of his beloved Vysotsky, already won Alexey Rantsov’s sympathy even before it was shown. The movie “I Don’t Believe in Fate” turned out to be a parable about the fact that any attempt to outwit fate does not lead to release, but to suffering—because the great meaning of a person’s existence is predetermined from above.
And with this thought Alexey was ready to agree—if only his former lover, Olga Pavlova, hadn’t suddenly come onstage to receive the prize in the “Best Screenplay” category. Olyonka, a dandelion meadow, passion, heated white-hot… “Why did I let her go?! I should have changed our fate!” Such thoughts tortured Alexey’s heart— which had long belonged to another woman.
