How did a strange unaccounted-for power emerge that acts on the side of the enemy?

The Cossack scout Ivan Platov, sent into the Ottoman Empire under a false name and managed to establish himself in the Turkish navy, is finally, for the Turkish command, transformed into Captain Hasan—someone trusted. What do the new assignments mean, on the edge of what’s possible, and sometimes beyond it? Another Austro-Turkish war engulfs the entire Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans. In a tight knot of contradictions, the interests of most European states have intertwined. An old feud between the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation and the Ottoman Empire flares up with renewed force, because the interests of Istanbul and Vienna will never coincide.

Captain Hasan receives an order: to conduct solitary cruiser operations in the Adriatic Sea. But during the mission, a chain of strange events occurs—events hard to explain. The oddities accumulate, and Captain Hasan develops a stubborn conviction that a new, unaccounted-for power has appeared—one acting on the side of the enemy.
