After treatment in a hospital, assault aviation squadron pilot Alexey Zhuravlev desperately tries to get back to the front so he can rise into the sky on the legendary Il-2—despite the fact that he was born decades after the Great Victory over Germany.

Whatever force dragged an unassuming engineering technologist into the gloomy November of 1941 doesn’t matter! Alexey refuses to sit out deep in the rear, even though he has the right to do so after being wounded, and immediately chooses a mortally dangerous job for an assault pilot—one who usually flies only two sorties “above the battlefield”—so he can at least somehow help the Air Force of the Red Army close the gap in their ranks after the enormous losses of summer battles.

Can the newly made junior lieutenant affect the course of the war? Will the skills he learned on computer flight simulators help him in real combat sorties?
