After a trip to Crete, Stefan Yanovsky’s friends hoped that the new assignment would take them to at least as pleasant a place—yet instead of the sea and sunshine, they found an ancient house in a remote, snowbound wilderness. Long ago, this house was built by a wealthy gold prospector, Ivan Verkhovodin, for his wife, but legends about it are the most dreadful. Verkhovodin was the only one who managed to find a ruby in these places, but they say that to do so he had to pay a considerable price.

For more than a hundred years, the legendary ruby was believed to be lost. However, a participant of a reality show filmed in Verkhovodin’s house took a photo of it on her phone. After that, she died, and the film crew fled in panic, shutting down the project. Stefan managed to get that photograph, and he immediately organized an expedition into the wilderness to find the ruby. The house greeted the team unwelcomingly and, it seems, tries in every way to get rid of unwelcome guests. Will they manage not to repeat the fate of the television crew—or will the house still take payment for disturbing its peace?
