The Peasants

The novel “The Peasants” was created by Balzac in the last period of his writing. The novel is built around depicting broad social phenomena and the dramatic collision of mass material interests. In no other work did he pose the question of the existence of two nations within a single society— the nation of masters and slaves, the rich and the poor, the masters of life and the deprived— with such courageous truthfulness and directness.
