Fourteen-year-old Carter and his twelve-year-old sister, Sadie Kane, seem like ordinary American schoolchildren with typical teenage problems. Yet behind that everyday appearance lies something unusual: a spirit of the Egyptian god Horus lives in Carter, and a spirit of the goddess Isis lives in Sadie. The Kane family plays a key role in the secret plans of the House of Life, an ancient community of magicians.
