The expedition of the kishceva reached the court of the Indigo Mist—home lands of the raxsur, creatures capable of changing their form and soaring in the sky. At the edge of the Ocean, people found an abandoned ancient city and are convinced it is the last resting place of the Foretellers. They ask the raxsur for help to get inside. But the raxsur are wary: the previous sealed city of the Foretellers they encountered turned out to be a prison for an untamed evil.
Even before the appearance of the kishceva, the Indigo Mist’s court had been haunted by visions of a coming catastrophe that could wipe all raxsur courts from the face of the world. Now the court’s mentors suspect that the ancient city is directly connected to the foretold threat. A small detachment of warriors—among them the escort Loon, an orphan who has recently been brought into the colony and has become part of the raxsur family, and the queen-sister Jade—decides to go along with the kishceva expedition. However, predatory packs of skverns are already headed for the city as well, and in this race for a chance to hold back the oncoming disaster, it is the raxsur who risk, by mistake, releasing an ancient evil into the world.
