High above the surface of Florina, the squires Sark live in unimaginable wealth and comfort. However, below—on the planet’s endless spring—local florians work nonstop to produce the precious kirt that brings prosperity to their masters.
Revolt is impossible and unthinkable. The florían people no longer have the concept of freedom: any violation of kirt trade will cause conflict with other planets, which will lead to a galactic war. And the Galactic Empire, striving to unite all of humanity, allows oppression to continue.
Rika has been kidnapped and had her mind washed. Now she is a person without memory or a past, living among the laborers of Florina. But when her memories start to return, Rik discovers that she carries an encrypted message: everything on Florina will die because of the Space Currents. Yet if the planet is evacuated, Sark’s power will turn to nothing—and there are those who would kill the messenger. The fate of the Galaxy is now hanging by a thread.
