Unrecognized by Darya, the daughter of the tragically killed Pskov merchant Ilya Cherkasov, Yuri—at the advice of an visiting merchant Alexander Kalashnikov (Xander)—moves with him from Pskov to Vladimir.
Here the merchant helps him find shelter, arrange a clinic to receive sick people. Yuri cures the governor’s daughter, Demyan’s daughter, and involuntarily becomes an oracle for him, predicting important events in Russia and in Demyan’s life. Following his calling, healing people and relieving them of suffering, Yuri expands his circle of friends; influential people show him favor; he gets his own home—given by a wealthy merchant for saving the wife, along with precious jewels.
Unfortunately, he also has to face black ingratitude and a threat to his life. Then he has to pick up a weapon.
During a voyage with merchants across the Mediterranean, Yuri catches sight of an ancient mirror. A chain of events unfolds so that he reaches an astonishing discovery for himself: the value of life is not at all what he had been striving for all those years. And then the secret of the Uyghur inscription on the frame of the mysterious mirror is revealed to him.
