In the year 2282 AD. A prosperous and wealthy Earth civilization is gradually mastering the nearest star systems to the Sun; the era of Long Voyages has begun. And this unique community suddenly finds itself under threat of total destruction—within a few years, a wandering neutron star will have to pass through the Solar system.

There is only one way out: immediate evacuation to other worlds.

The governments of the Russian and the German Empire begin implementing a large-scale program to save their citizens, but they face an insoluble riddle: the planet Hermes, where traces of the Outsiders have been found—strange Roads leading from nowhere to nowhere.
