The return of the incomparable Flavia de Luce!
In the peaceful village of Bishop Lacey, the locals find the dead body of a local hermit—someone who used to be an executioner with a questionable reputation. All the evidence points to Mrs. Mullet, the house cook for the De Luce family: she gathered mushrooms, beat eggs for the omelet, and served this fateful dish for breakfast. However, twelve-year-old Flavia de Luce, gifted in chemistry and uncovering secrets (and even locks), doesn’t believe it’s just a coincidence.
With test tubes in her pockets and a bicycle named “Gladys,” she begins her investigation, relying not only on logic, but also on wit. Together with the restrained Dogger and her cousin Undine, who isn’t any less sharp, Flavia digs deeper into mysteries that make the case increasingly tangled.
She doesn’t know that her investigation will lead to an incredible discovery that will change her entire life. And yet she finds out that even death in her world is only the beginning of an experiment.
