Petty Lords of This World

Description
The novel takes place during President Medvedev’s term. Senior Lieutenant of the police Petr Ivanenko discovers the corpse of a disgusting creature resembling an alien. The policeman is recruited by the Federal Security Service and given the task of finding the murderers in order to get to the living aliens. This leads to tragic consequences, and as a result, a revolution occurs in Ivanenko’s soul—he suddenly begins to see the truth clearly.

The authors reflect on the political situation in Russia and in the world, assess the actions of our government and the opposition, and also discuss contemporary opera and ballet, the works of Mikhail Bulgakov, Paul Verlaine, and Salvador Dalí. In form it is entertaining, but in content it is deep—this novel offers many existential questions.

According to the laws of classic detective fiction, everything that happens is seen through the eyes of the main character, and the camera never leaves Petr Ivanenko for even a minute. And as the reader joins the hero’s worldview, together with him they plunge into an atmosphere reminiscent of a funhouse murderous clown of modern Russian everyday life—splashed with neon and exploding with jokes—yet at the same time corroding human souls and corrupting our children.
