The peacekeeping contingent of the Ramma state is sent to the desert country of Remarque to restore order after the war. Corporal Marcus Trent and his unit head into the Saladh desert to suppress rebel activity, but they encounter mysterious and terrible phenomena. People disappear, soldiers start behaving strangely, and Marcus hears a mechanical voice in his head predicting horrifying events. They don’t suspect that soon they’ll face an inhuman intelligence and be forced to make a terrible choice—one that very few will survive.
