The Player

The story of Rick Mancini—a fake policeman, a man with several names, a card cheat and a criminal. Long ago, as a boy in an orphanage, Rick Mancini became friends with an older boy named Mactirnan. Many years later, the older boy involved his younger companion in a bank robbery, which ended with an arrest and prison.
At precisely that time, a mysterious epidemic begins in Las Vegas. By a miracle, escaping turned-zombie guards and fellow inmates, Rick—disguised as a policeman—runs into freedom. After a series of dangerous adventures, barely avoiding death, he meets Rostislav Shibanov and his friends. Together with them, he continues his journey through America gripped by horror.
