The novel “Igor. The Root of the Line” is the third in the chain of narratives about the first Novgorod-Kyiv princes during the formation and development of the Kievan Rus’ state in the 9th–10th centuries. Readers are already familiar with the novels “Rurik. The Flight of the Falcon” and “The Runes of Prophetic Oleg,” written by us together with Mikhail Nikolayevich Zadornov. Prince Igor is the first Old Rus’ prince whose name is known both to Byzantine and Western sources. In this novel, we present our version of historical events, which seems to us to be logically justified.
Prince Igor—later known as “Old”—put his stone to the foundation of the Kievan Rus’ state, defended it honorably, and strengthened it without losing anything of what had been conquered earlier by his father Rarog-Rurik and by his uncle Oleg the Wise. He laid the foundation for the Rurikid dynasty that ruled over Rus’ for more than six hundred years.
