There was plenty to be angry about for the Queen of Egypt—she lost not only power, but also her husband. Pharaoh Akhenaten ignored Nefertiti both as co-ruler and as a woman. He brought the young, tender Smenkhkare close—his half-brother—and Nefertiti hated him for it. Suddenly Akhenaten dies. Nefertiti tries to regain power, but too many influential men have no interest in it.
The dramatic events also draw in Akhenaten’s and Nefertiti’s elder daughters: they had to sacrifice much for the interests of the royal dynasty—some for love, and some for their lives. Perhaps only the eldest princess was lucky enough to escape together with her beloved. At least, the author suggests exactly such a development of events.
