"Death of the Gods" is the title book of the "Chronicles of Hjorvard" cycle. Many fans consider it Perumov’s best book. Into Hjorvard, ruled by the Young Gods, the mage Hedin returns from a thousand-year exile. He has come here to take an apprentice for himself.
The seed of fate lies in the castle of all the Ancients, and with its help Hedin’s apprentice, Hagen, is brought into the world. Later Hagen becomes a mighty mage and a weapon in Hedin’s hands. They manage to free the mage Rakot, once imprisoned by the Young Gods, and together they challenge the ruling seven. And Hjorvard becomes an arena for battles so furious and vast that they call into question the very existence of this world. The Hungry Stars, the Children of Demogorgon, the Bodiless, the Guardian of the Promised, the Yellow Scorpions tearing reality apart—these are only some of the entities to which the heroes resort.
