Heart and mind are antagonists in a human destiny. At least, in a woman’s destiny.
That is what it is commonly thought, and that is what everyone thinks when life brings Maria Lugovskaya together with them—Maria who carries French and Russian blood in her veins. Moscow and Paris, an Urals village and the French Riviera—all of it has fused in her life in an unusual way.
Life cruelly convinces Maria that you can’t live by the heart alone: her Russian love ends in collapse and disappointment.
Maybe her father, Dr. Lugovskoy—separated from his Russian family by fate and sent to France—passed her the “gene of suffering.” Or perhaps it was the other way around: her French mother gave her that mysterious quality called a sensible heart.
But will such a strange combination bring her happiness?
