Months after Inara leaves “Serenity,” Mal finally learns the shocking reason: his companion is dying of cancer, and there isn’t much time left.
The crew searches in desperation for any information that could help. On the word is that oncologist Dr. Eso Wen has developed a treatment method, but he was discredited and sentenced to life in prison. Rumor has it he is on At-Ate—a notorious Alliance prison planet. Prisoners there are held without guards and survive as best they can. And besides, terraforming of the planet isn’t complete, so the world is a vile wasteland inhabited by savage mutants.
