Having agreed to give a ride to a stranger, Pavel Petrovich could not have imagined that ordinary politeness would turn into a string of problems for him. The culprit is the very same fellow passenger: by a ridiculous accident, she took the wrong folder and, instead of her own—which had some strange list in it—she carried off Pavel Petrovich’s folder, containing important documents for the French embassy.
