This novel is not a direct continuation of Tolkien’s famous epic “The Lord of the Rings,” although the characters live in the same world of Middle-earth. The story unfolds three centuries after the fall of Sauron, the Black Lord. At the center of the narrative are the adventures of a young hobbit, Falco Brandybuck. Together with his dwarf friends, he wanders through Middle-earth, trying to understand the origins of the anxieties of his time, find the seat of Evil, and overcome the Dark Forces that have risen anew.
