In the latter half of the 19th century, an unusual object began to appear before the eyes of sailors at sea— a glowing, spindle-shaped thing, far exceeding a whale in both speed and size. Newspapers and then scientists around the world became interested in the “sea monster.”
But fate was kind only to Professor Aronnax, who together with his servant Conseil and harpooner Ned Land ended up on board an extraordinary—indeed the only in the world—submarine.
The captain and crew of the submarine turned out not to be monsters at all, and the heroes experienced plenty of dangerous and astonishing adventures, taking a round-the-world journey of 20,000 leagues under water.
